There is a team of nurses/health care support workers who work in school with at least one member of the team on site. The nurse will attend to the major-medical needs of the pupils. She is supported by school staff who are trained first aiders who will treat minor ailments/injuries. The nurse provides training to all staff at Elms Bank in the use of different types of rescue medication and other techniques and procedures to ensure our pupil’s health needs are met.
The nurse coordinates several medical specialists to attend school to see the pupils. These include appointments with the doctor, dietician, orthoptist, podiatrist, dentist, consultant paediatrician and the ophthalmist. The nurse also attends Social Care meetings. She will also have a health input in Annual Review and Educational Health and Care Plan meetings.
Having a nurse on site is of huge benefit to the pupils and is a service we are very proud of which enriches our students and staff.
